Frequently Asked Questions

Renneburg Division

  1. What type of dryer is best suited for my application?
H&P manufactures several types of dryers. In selecting a particular style we consider the material handling characteristics of the material being processed. Particle size, feed moisture, temperature sensitivity, and abrasion characteristics are just a few of the material properties that can effect dryer selection. We often need to perform pilot plant tests to determine the final style of dryer that bests meets the application. Contact H&P with your specifications to allow us select the dryer to meet your needs.
  2. What is the thermal efficiency of the dryers?
Thermal efficiency determines the operating cost for fuel required for the system. A typical dryer will be between 1400 to 2200 BTU's per pound of water evaporated. This figure is dependent upon the design conditions of the drying system which are determined for each application.
  3. How much residence time is required for my process?
Residence time is material dependent. Some materials dry quickly while others take much more time. Inherent type moistures and materials with porous structures typically take longer to dry. As drying is a time/temperature relationship, the temperature at which the process operates also effects the time to dry the material. Experience and testing are normally the methods employed to determine residence times for a drying system.
