Frequently Asked Questions
Dumpers and Positioners
- How many cars per hour can I dump?
Since all machinery is custom designed, the only limitation is the capacity of the take away conveyor. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
- How deep is the foundation for the dumper?
The depth of the foundation is partially dependent on the configuration of the receiving hoppers and the size of the belt feeders. Rotary dumpers with a 3300 TPH capacity have used foundations of only 47 feet deep. Turnover dumpers with a 1500 TPH capacity have been built with a pit depth of 26 feet.
- What is the delivery?
Deliveries range from as little as 8 to 12 months. However, accommodations can be made for client’s special needs. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
- What are the horse power requirements?
Typically, most rotary dumpers require 100 to 125 HP, turnovers use 150 HP. Positioners vary depending on the cycle time, length of train track loop layout and elevations. Contact us to discuss your unique needs.
- How long of a train can be handled?
By utilizing our experienced team of engineers, custom design is possible and an almost unlimited numbers of cars can be accommodated.
- How much does it cost?
Costs are determined by accessory equipment, client’s requirements, transportation costs etc. Please contact us to discuss your needs.
- How long does it take to erect the equipment and what are the erection costs?
The HP line of equipment is designed and built to facilitate the erection sequence. Most connections are bolted to eliminate costly field welds. Typically, a dumper can be erected on foundations in a period of as little as three weeks. Positioning systems can be erected and wired within 4 weeks. Costs for construction depend on locale, labor restrictions etc.
- What machines and accessories will I need?
Contact us to discuss your project needs. We will assist you with selection and options.
- Can Heyl & Patterson replace another manufacturers dumper without the need for expensive foundation modification?
Yes, H&P has replaced many machines that were designed and built by other companies. Our primary goal on such projects is to minimize disruptions to the client’s operations. Thus, foundations need not be modified.
Barge Unloaders
- What is the delivery?
Typically, delivery is approximately 12 months. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
- What are the unloading capacities?
Grab bucket unloaders have a free digging rate of up to 1500 TPH. Continuous bucket unloaders have been built with free digging rates of up to 6000 TPH.
- What are the average unloading rates?
Grab bucket style unloaders average approximately 50% of the free digging rate. Continuous unloaders average about 75% of the free digging rate.
- How much material will be left in the barge?
The grab style unloader can almost completely clean a barge. The CBU leaves approximately 1 ½% remaining. This material is generally cleaned out by other methods or in the case of client owned barges returned with the remaining material.
- What’s the best machinery choice for me?
Contact us to discuss your needs. We will assist you with your options.
